2018 AAOS Annual Meeting: Chemoprophylaxis for Venous Thromboembolism in Operative Treatment of Fractures of the Tibia and Distally: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Five randomized controlled trials were included in this meta-analysis comparing the rates of venous thromboembolism and clinically-relevant venous thromboembolism after operative management of fractures in the tibia and distally between chemoprophylaxis groups and control groups. While a significant reduction in the incidence of venous thromboembolism overall was observed with chemoprophylaxis, no significant difference between groups was observed in the incidence of clinically-important venous thromboembolism.
