A Comparison of Prosthetic Joint Infection in Metal-on-Polyethylene, Ceramic-on- Polyethylene, and Ceramic-on-Ceramic Bearings in Total Hip Arthroplasty: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
17 studies were included in this meta-analysis comparing the rates of prosthetic joint infection (PJI) between metal-on-polyethylene articulation, ceramic-on-polyethylene articulation, or ceramic-on-ceramic articulation in total hip arthroplasty. Meta-analysis demonstrated no significant difference between the three bearing surfaces in the incidence of PJI.
