2017 AAOS Annual Meeting: Efficacy And Safety Of Tranexamic Acid In Orthopedic Fracture Surgery: A Meta Analysis And Systematic Review

OE Journal. 2017;5(7):26Nine studies (randomized controlled trials/cohort studies) were included in this meta-analysis evaluating the efficacy and safety of tranexamic acid in patients undergoing fracture surgery. Total blood loss, transfusion rate, hemoglobin drop, and the incidence of venous thromboembolic complications were analyzed in this meta-analysis. Results demonstrated significantly lower total blood loss, smaller hemoglobin drop, and lower transfusion rate in patients administered TXA compared to placebo. No significant differences between groups were observed in the incidence of deep vein thrombosis.
