2017 AAOS Annual Meeting: A Randomized Single-blinded Trial of Early Rehabilitation versus Immobilization after Reverse Total Shoulder Arthroplasty

89 patients who had undergone reverse total shoulder arthroplasty were included in this randomized clinical trial to compare immediate and delayed rehabilitation protocols postoperatively. Range of motion, American Shoulder & Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score, and adverse events were scheduled to be evaluated over a 12-month period. Patients in both groups demonstrated significant improvement after 3 months in range of motion and ASES scores compared to preoperative values. There were no significant differences between groups in the change from preoperative levels for range of motion or ASES scores. One complication was observed in both groups at the time of analysis.
