2017 AAOS Annual Meeting: Efficacy of Peri-incisional Multimodal Drug Injection for Acute Femur Fractures – A Randomized Controlled Trial

102 patients with an acute femoral fracture undergoing either fixation or arthroplasty were randomized to the procedure with or without intraoperative peri-incisional injection analgesia. Patients were assessed for pain scores, on a visual analog scale, and narcotic consumption over the first 48 hours postoperatively. Results demonstrated significantly lower VAS pain scores over the first 12 hours postoperatively, and significantly lower narcotic consumption for the first 8 hours postoperative in the group which received intraoperative peri-incisional injection analgesia.
