2017 AAOS Annual Meeting: Comparing Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP) Injection with Surgical Intervention for the Management of Refractory Lateral Epicondylosis: A Randomized Clinical Trial

92 patients with lateral epicondylitis for at least 6 months who were nonresponsive to previous conservative therapies were randomized to either an injection of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) or operative treatment through open debridement/release. Patients were assessed using the Patient-Reported Tennis Elbow Evaluation (PRTEE) and the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) questionnaire over a 12-month period. Results demonstrated no significant differences between groups in either functional score at any time point. During follow-up, 13 of 42 patients of the PRP group crossed over and underwent operative treatment.
