TeACH-R Trial: Efficacy of Intravenous and Topical Tranexamic Acid in Total Hip Arthroplasty
124 patients undergoing primary, cementless total hip arthroplasty were included in this randomized controlled trial to compare the efficacy of different methods of tranexamic acid application. Patients were randomized to either intravenous administration of tranexamic acid 10 minutes prior to skin incision, or topical infiltration prior to skin closure. The results of this study indicated that there was no significant difference in perioperative blood loss, peak change in hemoglobin, or the number of transfusions required.
