2013 AAOS Annual Meeting: Conventional versus Short, Anatomic Metaphyseal-Fitting Cementless Stem for Femoral Neck Fracture

OE Journal. 2013;1(2):5570 patients with femoral neck fractures undergoing total hip arthroplasty were randomized to receive either a short, anatomic metaphyseal-fitting femoral stem in comparison to the standard diaphyseal-fitting femoral stem. The results at minimum 2 years follow-up indicated that clinical outcomes were similar between groups, and that patients who received the short metaphyseal-fitting stems experienced a lower incidence of thigh pain and pulmonary microemboli.
