2014 AAOS Annual Meeting: Prospective Randomized Repair of the Pronator Quadratus Following Volar Plate Fixation of Distal Radius Fractures

OE Journal. 2014;2(6):5760 patients with distal radius fractures were randomly allocated to undergo volar plate fixation with or without pronator quadratus (PQ) muscle repair following the procedure, to determine whether PQ repair improves wrist function and other clinical outcomes. Results indicated that PQ repair did not improve wrist function or pain at 12 months post-operation, although grip strength and flexion range of motion was significantly improved at 6 weeks. Both groups demonstrated similar reoperation rates.
