2014 AAOS Annual Meeting: Barbed vs. Standard Sutures for Closure in TKA: A Multicenter Prospective Randomized Trial

OE Journal. 2014;2(6):26411 patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty were randomized to receive barbed or standard sutures for wound closure, with the purpose of comparing overall efficiency and safety of both treatment options. Upon analysis, barbed sutures appeared to reduce closure times and costs compared to standard sutures, while postoperative complications, clinical outcomes, and patient satisfaction were similar between the two types of sutures.
