AAOS 2026: Percutaneous 60-Day Nerve Stimulation After TKA In Patients with Persistent Post-Op Pain .
Efficacy of Percutaneous 60-Day Peripheral Nerve Stimulation in patients with serious persistent postoperative pain and impaired function after total knee arthroplasty: 12-month follow-up from a randomized controlled trial
In this 12 month follow-up study, patients with moderate-to-severe baseline pain and functional limitation who were randomized to receive 60-day percutaneous peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) were assessed to see whether treatment effects persisted. Outcomes of interest included the proportion of patients with substantial improvement in pain, function, or a composite of both at 12 months. Study findings revealed that, at 12 months post-treatment, the majority of patients reported sustained and substantial improvements in function (67%), pain (65%), and composite function/pain (77%), indicating the potential of percutaneous PNS to provide sustained clinical improvements for patients with severe pain and function limitations after TKA.
