2026 AAOS Annual Meeting: No Effects of Extended Oral Tranexamic Acid following Total Knee Arthroplasty on Postoperative Pain and Range of Motion: A Randomized Controlled Trial

48 patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty were randomized to receive extended oral tranexamic acid (TXA) during the first 3 days post-operation (n=24) or a placebo (n=24). The primary outcome of interest was pain scores, measured during the first 3 months post-operation. Secondary outcomes of interest included range of motion, ambulation status, and opioid consumption. Results revealed no significant differences between the two groups in all outcomes, suggesting that extended TXA use provides no additional benefit in this context.
