2025 AAOS Annual Meeting: Utilization of Tranexamic Acid in Open Reduction Internal Fixation of Acetabular and Pelvic Fractures: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Ten studies involving 1,213 patients with pelvic and acetabular fractures were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing TXA use versus no TXA in ORIF procedures. Pooled outcomes of interest included intraoperative blood loss, surgical time, transfusion rates, and VTE incidence. TXA use significantly reduced estimated blood loss and operative time compared to controls. However, no significant difference was observed in transfusion rates or VTE incidence. These findings suggest that TXA can safely reduce blood loss and operative time without increasing thromboembolic complications in patients undergoing pelvic and acetabular fracture fixation.
