2024 AAOS Annual Meeting: Reverse Total Shoulder Arthroplasty Superior at 5 Years compared with Plate Fixation for Displaced Proximal Humeral Fractures in the Elderly: A Randomized Controlled Trial, The DelPhi Trial

This abstract presents the 5-year results of the DelPhi Trial. 124 elderly patients with severely displaced proximal humeral fractures were randomized to receive reverse total shoulder arthroplasty or plate fixation. 65 patients completed the 5-year follow-up. The primary outcome of interest was the Constant Score. The secondary outcomes of interest included the Oxford Shoulder Score (OSS) and radiological measurements. Study findings revealed that reverse arthroplasty patients experienced significantly better Constant scores at 5 years compared to those who underwent plate fixation. This was especially true for those with type C2 fractures and patients aged 64-75 years.
