2024 AAOS Annual Meeting: Postoperative triamcinolone injection can improve the shoulder range of motion without capsular release during arthroscopic rotator cuff repair in the patients of rotator cuff tear with stiffness: a prospective randomized clinical trial

73 patients with rotator cuff tears were randomized to receive either arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR) with capsular release (Group 1; n=37) or ARCR without capsular release + triamcinolone acetonide and lidocaine hydrochloride 2 months after surgery (Group 2; n=36). Outcomes of interest included the American Shoulder & Elbow Surgeons Scale (ASES), Constant score, Korean Shoulder Scale (KSS), pain on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS), and range of motion (ROM). Both groups showed improved function and VAS pain scores at the last follow-up with Group 2 (injections only) reporting significantly lower VAS pain scores at 3 months postoperation. However, there were no significant differences in functional scores, ROM, or retear rates of the repaired rotator cuff between the two groups at any of the follow-up points.
