2024 AAOS Annual Meeting: Effect of Postoperative Rehabilitation after Arthroscopic Bankart Repair for Traumatic Anterior Shoulder Dislocation and Subluxation: A Randomized Controlled Trial

64 patients who underwent Arthroscopic Bankart Repair (ABR) for traumatic recurrent anterior dislocation and subluxation of the shoulder were randomized to receive rehabilitation (n=29) or no rehabilitation (n=31). Outcomes of interest included redislocation, anterior instability, range of motion, Rowe score, and the Western Ontario Shoulder Instability Index (WOSI) assessed at 6 months, one year, and two years post-surgery. No significant between-group differences were found in terms of redislocation and anterior instability. No differences in Rowe scores were found at any timepoint. Significantly higher WOSI scores were reported for the no rehabilitation group compared to the rehabilitation group, however this was only noted at the 6 month timepoint.
