2023 AAOS Annual Meeting: Efficacy of Multimodal Analgesia following Hip Arthroscopy

132 patients undergoing hip arthroscopy for symptomatic femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) were randomized to either standard of care (SOC) alone, SOC + postoperative sleeping aid, SOC + pre- and postoperative gabapentin, or SOC + preoperative celecoxib. The primary outcome of this trial was to determine pain scores every day for one week and every other day for 6 weeks. Pain scores were measured using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Secondary outcomes that were assessed were opioid consumption and length of stay. Pain scores were similar between all groups at all times after adjusting for intraoperative traction time, opioid consumption, and preoperative pain scores. Length of stay and average daily morphine consumption were also similar between all groups.
