AAOS 2023: Monocryl vs. Nylon Sutures on Patient & Observer-Assessed After Carpal Tunnel Surgery .
Effect of Monocryl versus Nylon Sutures on Patient and Observer-Assessed Outcomes after Carpal Tunnel Surgery: Prospective Randomized Controlled Trial
104 patients undergoing open carpal tunnel release were randomized to receive wound closure using Monocryl absorbable sutures or traditional nylon sutures. The outcome of interest was the Patient and Observer Scar Assessment Scale (POSAS), measured at 2 and 6 weeks post-operation. At 2 weeks, superior patient assessment (in thickness and irregularity) and observer assessment (in every category) was reported in favour of the Monocryl group. At 6 weeks, no differences were observed in POSAS patient or observer assessments between groups.
