2023 AAOS Annual Meeting: Is the Limited Use of Tourniquet during Total Knee Arthroplasty More Beneficial in Contemporary Enhanced Recovery Protocol? A Prospective Randomized Controlled Trial

100 patients with knee osteoarthritis undergoing a total knee arthroplasty with enhanced recovery after surgery were randomized to receive limited tourniquet use (n=51) or conventional tourniquet use (n=49). Outcomes of interest included operative and lab parameters, muscle strength, and clinical outcome scores, measured up to 3 months post-operation. Despite limited tourniquet use resulting in comparable blood loss and hemoglobin drop, clinical outcomes were largely comparable between the two groups.
