2017 AAOS Annual Meeting: A Clinical Prospective Randomized Study Comparing Percutaneous Sub Capital Metatarsal Osteotomy with Open Distal Chevron Osteotomy in Hallux Valgus Corrective Surgery

29 patients with bilateral, painful, mild-moderate hallux valgus were included in this trial to compare correction and satisfaction outcomes between open distal chevron osteotomy and percutaneous sub-capital osteotomy. Patients had their feet randomized to which foot would receive the minimally invasive procedure. The results of this trial indicated that the distal chevron osteotomy procedure resulted in better correction of the intermetatarsal angle. Additionally, patient and surgeon satisfaction was similar within open distal osteotomies but differed for percutaneous sub-capital osteotomies.
