2016 AAOS Annual Meeting: Tranexamic Acid and Epsilon-Aminocaproic Acid to Reduce Blood Loss Following Total Knee Arthroplasty

OE Journal. 2016;4(5):18140 patients scheduled for total knee arthroplasty (TKA) were randomized to be administered either tranexamic acid or epsilon-aminocaproic acid. The purpose of this study was to compare the antifibrolytic effects of the two drugs after total knee arthroplasty. Findings indicated no significant differences in transfusion rates, drop in haemoglobin (Hb) levels, serum creatinine change, and postoperative renal, thrombotic, and bleeding events.
