Efficacy of Preoperative Lumbar Plexus Block in Pain Management and Opioid Consumption after Total Hip Arthroplasty
60 patients scheduled for total hip arthoplasty were randomized to a postoperative pain-control regimen with or without a preoperative lumbar plexus block (LPB). The purpose of this study was to determine if a preoperative LPB was associated with significantly decreased patient-reported pain scores and opioid consumption after 48 hours in postoperative care. Results demonstrated that pain scores and registered total opioid consumption was comparable between study groups.
