2016 AAOS Annual Meeting: Periarticular Injection Versus Femoral Nerve Block for Pain Control After ACL Reconstruction

OE Journal. 2016;4(6):5272 patients undergoing double-bundle anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction were randomized to different methods of postoperative analgesia. Patients received a periarticular multimodal injection (PI) or a femoral nerve block (FNB), all patients were given supplemental patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) using fentanyl. The results of this trial indicated that pain was reduced in the PI group at the 24 hour and 2 day time points. PCA use and C-reactive protein levels were also reduced in the PI group.
