RCT comparison of Delta ceramic versus metal against conventional polyethylene in THA
110 patients scheduled for total hip arthroplasty were randomized to either ceramic-on-polyethylene or metal-on-polyethylene articulation. The purpose of this study was to determine if there was any significant difference in polyethylene wear (femoral head penetration) at a minimum of 3 years postoperatively. Patients were assessed radiographically for creep wear (penetration within the 1 year after surgery) and steady-state wear (penetration occurring beyond the the first year), leading to linear wear rate. Results demonstrated no significant differences in any of the assessed outcomes.
