2015 AAHS Annual Meeting: Plate Fixation Versus Percutaneous Pinning For Unstable Metacarpal Fractures: a Meta-analysis

5 studies with a total of 222 patients (231 fractures) were included in this meta-analysis which aimed to evaluate two surgical treatment options for metacarpal fractures. Percutaneous pinning and open reduction-internal fixation with plate and screws were compared to evaluate which surgical intervention improved rate of complications, functional and radiological outcomes. The study determined that percutaneous pinning was associated with higher postoperative motion scores, while rate of complications, functional and radiological outcomes did not differ between groups.
