Study Summary

Forty patients with chronic knee osteoarthritis were randomized to either the home-exercise smartphone application program (n=20) or the paper-based home exercise program (n=20). The primary outcome of this trial was to determine the adherence rate to the exercise program at 3 and 6 weeks. Secondary outcomes such as pain intensity (Arabic Numeric Pain Rating Scale (ANPRS)), knee function (Arabic version of Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Index (ArWOMAC)), and Five-Times Sit-to-Stand Test (FTSST) were measured. The results of this trial showed significant differences in adherence rate and pain intensity after 6 weeks with better adherence and pain scores in the smartphone app group.
