A novel skin closure device accelerates early cosmesis in orthopaedic surgical incisions: a randomised controlled trial.

Eighty-three patients undergoing shoulder, knee, or elbow sports-medicine procedures were randomized to BandGrip (n=42) or conventional sutures (n=41). The primary outcome was cosmetic appearance using the Hollander Wound Evaluation Scale (HWES). Secondary outcome was patient satisfaction (0–10 NRS). Outcomes were assessed at ~2 weeks, ~2 months, and ~1 year, with analyses stratified by incision length (≤2 cm vs >2 cm). Overall, the results showed significantly better early cosmesis with BandGrip for ≤2 cm incisions at 2 weeks and 2 months, and for >2 cm incisions at 2 months; however, groups were comparable by 1 year. In short, BandGrip accelerated early cosmetic recovery while achieving similar long-term appearance.
