Comparison of two hydroxyapatite-coated femoral components: a randomized clinical trial using radiostereometric analysis.
Bone Joint J. 2023 Oct 1;105-B(10):1045-1051.Fifty patients with symptomatic osteoarthritis of the hip were randomized to receive either an Avenir femoral component (n=25) or a Corail femoral component (n=25) during primary total hip arthroplasty. The primary outcome of interest was femoral component subsidence, and secondary outcomes included rotational migration (anteversion/retroversion and varus/valgus tilt) and patient-reported outcome measures. Outcomes were assessed at six, 12, and 24 months postoperatively. Overall, the results of the study revealed no statistically significant differences between the two femoral components in subsidence, rotational migration, or patient-reported outcomes at any follow-up timepoint. These findings suggest that both femoral components provide comparable implant stability and patient outcomes over a two-year period.
