Long-term results of radial extracorporeal shock wave treatment for chronic plantar fasciopathy: A prospective, randomized, placebo-controlled trial with two years follow-up

50 patients with chronic plantar fasciopathy were included in this trial to determine the long-term efficacy of radial extracorporeal shock wave treatment (ESWT). Patients were randomized to either two sessions of ESWT or to a placebo group in this double-blind trial. Patient follow-up was conducted over a two-year period using VAS pain and Roles and Maudsley scores. Pain was significantly lower in ESWT group at all follow-up time points over the two years. Similarly, Roles and Maudsley scores were significantly better in the ESWT group at all time points over the two-year follow-up.
