Day-of-Surgery Mobilization Reduces the Length of Stay After Elective Hip Arthroplasty
J Arthroplasty. 2016 Oct;31(10):2227-30126 patients who had undergone total hip arthroplasty or hip resurfacing and were deemed appropriate cases for same-day mobilization were randomized to mobilization in the afternoon following surgery (POD 0 group), or on the first postoperative day (POD 1 group). The purpose of this study was to compare time to discharge readiness and overall length of hospital stay between groups. The time to discharge readiness was significantly shorter in the POD 0 mobilization group compared to the POD 1 mobilization group; the difference between groups in overall length of stay was not statistically significant.
