2016 AAOS Annual Meeting: Low Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound in Acute Tibial Shaft Fractures Treated with IM Nails: The Results of the TRUST Trial

OE Journal. 2016;4(5):67501 patients with tibial shaft fractures who underwent fracture fixation with an intramedullary nail were included in this trial. Patients were randomized to receive low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) or sham treatment to evaluate the effect of LIPUS on time to union and functional outcomes. The results of this trial over a one year period indicated that there were no differences between LIPUS and sham-treated patients in the time to union. Additionally, there were no differences in functional outcomes between the two groups.
