2016 AAOS Annual Meeting: Randomized Clinical Evaluation of Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction Grafts

OE Journal. 2016;4(5):49240 patients undergoing anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction were randomized to one of three types of allografts (tibialis anterior, bone-tendon-bone, and adjustable bone-tendon-bone) or one of three types of autografts (bone-tendon-bone, hamstring, quadriceps bone-tendon). The purpose of this study was to compare six variations of grafts to determine their clinical effectiveness over 24 months. Findings indicated no statistical differences between any patient group for International Knee Documentation Committee Score (IKDC), Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome score (KOOS), SF-36, or KT-2000. Patellar fractures were only reported in the autograft group, although the number of serious adverse events between groups was not significantly different.
