Efficacy of intraarticular application of ketamine or ketamine-levobupivacaine combination on post-operative pain after arthroscopic meniscectomy

OE Journal. 2015;3(24):37 Knee Surg Sports Traumatol Arthrosc. 2015 Sep;23(9):2721-660 patients undergoing arthroscopic partial meniscectomy for medial meniscus tears were randomized to receive intra-articular injection of either ketamine, ketamine plus levobupivacaine, or saline. The purpose of the study was to determine and compare the efficacy and safety of ketamine and ketamine-levobupivacaine in relation to a control. Results showed that both ketamine groups had a reduction in the need for additional analgesics, and displayed lower VAS pain scores up to 12 h postoperatively in comparison to the control group. Additionally, The ketamine-levobupivacaine group had reduced VAS pain scores in comparison to the ketamine group at 4, 8, and 12 hours after surgery.
