2015 COA Annual Meeting: Periarticular Multimodal Drug Injection is Better than Single Anaesthetic Drug in Controlling Pain after TKA: A Double Blinded RCT

OE Journal. 2015;3(13):464 patients were randomized to receive either a multimodal drug injection or a single anesthetic injection for pain reduction following total knee arthroplasty. The goal of this study was to determine a standard dosage and composition for periarticular drug injection. The results indicated that the multimodal injection that included morphine and ketorolac provided better pain management, lower opioid consumption, and a longer period before on set of opioid consumption, as compared to the single anesthetic injection.
