Covering of the Toes During Hindfoot and Ankle Surgery: A Randomized, Controlled, Clinical Study

40 patients who underwent hindfoot and ankle surgery where randomly assigned to one of two groups based on whether their toes were covered by a sterile glove, or left uncovered at the time of their surgery. Outcomes were determined by examining 3 cultures obtained from the patient's foot (preoperatively, perioperatively and postoperatively). Results showed that there were no benefits when patients had their toes covered compared to uncovered when undergoing hindfoot and ankle surgery.
