Meta-analysis of reamed versus unreamed intramedullary nailing for open tibial fractures

OE Journal. 2014;2(20):48 J Orthop Surg Res. 2014 Aug 23;9:74Data from 4 randomized control trials (646 patients) were pooled to examine the clinical efficacy of reamed versus unreamed intramedullary nailing for open tibial fractures (OTF). The collective analysis evaluated the following variables: healing rate, secondary surgery rate, implant failure rate, incidence of osteofascial compartment syndrome, and postoperative infection rate. Results indicated that there were no significant differences between reamed and unreamed nailing regarding these outcomes of interest.
