Operative and nonoperative adverse events in the management of traumatic fractures of the thoracolumbar spine: a systematic review
Neurosurg Focus. 2014 Jul;37(1)19 papers investigating 1355 patients were systematically reviewed to compare the incidence of adverse events between patients who were operatively or non-operatively treated for traumatic thoracolumbar fracture. The evidence presented in this systematic review indicated that the incidence of all complications, and incidence of infection, was significantly higher in the operative group. Instrumentation failure and need for revision surgery was apparent in 4.35% of all operative patients.
