Operative Versus Nonoperative Treatment for Complex Proximal Humeral Fractures: A Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

Data from 7 RCTs (n=286) was pooled to determine a superior method of fixation between nonoperative and operative interventions for complex proximal humeral fractures (3- and 4- part fracture). Pooled analysis included investigations of functional outcomes, complications, and additional surgery. The evidence presented in this trial demonstrated comparable functional outcomes between operative and nonoperative measures. While complications were also comparable, operative treatment was associated with the occurrence of additional surgery.
