Double-bundle versus single-bundle anterior cruciate ligament reconstructions: a prospective, randomized study with 2-year follow-up

108 patients undergoing anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction were randomized to receive either single- or double-bundle reconstruction. The purpose was to compare clinical outcomes over 2-year follow-up. Outcomes of interest included subjective knee function, the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS), the Tegner and Lysholm scores, Lachman and pivot-shift tests, knee range of motion, KT-1000 side-to-side difference, and isokinetic muscle strength. Results at 2 years demonstrated no significant differences between the groups in any of the study outcomes.
