Epub 2013 Apr 1.50 geriatric patients admitted to hospital after incurring a hip fracture were randomized to receive either a post-surgery tight calorie control meal plan, or a standard hospital meal plan. The primary aim of this study was to compare the length of hospital stay and presence of complications between the two groups. Upon analysis, tight calorie control appeared to reduce total complication rates and improve daily energy balance, but did not significantly shorten the duration of hospital stay compared to standard hospital meal plans.
