Evaluation of the effect of D-002, a mixture of beeswax alcohols, on osteoarthritis symptoms

60 patients with diagnosed osteoarthritis of the knee, hip, or fingers were randomized to receive an oral tablet once daily of either D-002 (50 mg) or placebo for a total of 6 weeks. At week 3, if no improvement was observed, the dose was increased to two tablets per day (daily dose of 100 mg). The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of D-002 - a combination of beeswax alcohols - on osteoarthritis symptom reduction. Results indicated that Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) scores for pain, stiffness and function, as well as total WOMAC scores and VAS pain were improved to a significantly higher degree in the D-002 group compared to the placebo group at study completion.
