The Effect of Platelet-Rich Plasma on Clinical Outcomes in Lateral Epicondylitis
Arthroscopy. 2013 Nov;29(11):1851-62Data from 8 articles (9 studies; 3 RCTs) was included in this systematic review to ascertain the effectiveness of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for the treatment of lateral epicondylitis. The systematic review demonstrated that the combined effect size resulted in significant improvements in pain and function with PRP: of the 9 included studies (5 RCTs), 2 cohort studies indicated that PRP improved clinical satisfaction scores,1 case-control study suggested that PRP induced a significantly superior improvement in symptoms compared with bupivacaine. Two smaller trials observed no significant difference between corticosteroid and PRP; however a larger third trial demonstrated a significant benefit associated with PRP with regard to pain and DASH scores at 1 and 2 years.
