US-Approved Intra-Articular Hyaluronic Acid Injections are Safe and Effective in Patients with Knee Osteoarthritis: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized, Saline-Controlled Trials
Clin Med Insights Arthritis Musculoskelet Disord. 2013 Sep 1;6:57-6329 randomized, saline-controlled studies were included in this meta-analysis to compare the effects of hyaluronic acid to saline solution in osteoarthritis patients. Pain and function were both improved compared to pretest assessments at 4-13 months and 14-26 months. Pain and function results were also significantly better in patients who received hyaluronic acid injections compared to the patients who were administered a saline solution. Adverse events were comparable between groups.
