Influence of glenosphere size on the development of scapular notching: a prospective randomized study
J Shoulder Elbow Surg. 2016 Nov;25(11):1735-174189 patients scheduled for reverse shoulder arthroplasty were randomized to receive either a 42mm glenosphere or a 38mm glenosphere. The purpose of this study was to compare the rate of scapular notching between groups on radiograph over 2-year follow-up. Four crossovers from the 42mm group to the 38mm group were required, as the implants were too big and not reducible. Results demonstrated a significantly lower incidence of scapular notching in the 42mm group compared to the 38mm group after 2 years, though this did not have an impact on Constant scores, which were found to be non-significantly different between groups.
