Effect of fenofibrate on amputation events in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus (FIELD study): A prespecified analysis of a randomised controlled trial

OE Journal. 2013;1(5):40 Lancet. 2009 May 23;373(9677):1780-89795 patients with type II diabetes were randomized to receive daily treatment with 200 mg of fenofibrate or equivalent placebo treatment. This study examined the effect of a long-term lipid-lowering treatment on occurrence of amputation and reduction of adverse outcomes of the macro- and micro-vasculature. At 5 year follow-up, fenofibrate produced a reduction in non-traumatic amputations observed in type II diabetics.
