2025 AAOS Annual Meeting: Efficacy of Blood Flow Restriction After Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

OE Journal. 2025;13(7):38Eight randomized controlled trials including 245 patients who underwent anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing BFR therapy versus non-BFR rehabilitation. Pooled outcomes of interest included isokinetic muscle strength, quadriceps muscle volume, pain, and International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) scores. BFR therapy significantly improved muscle strength, IKDC scores, and pain, but showed no significant effect on quadriceps muscle volume. These findings suggest that BFR therapy may be a valuable adjunct to enhance functional recovery following ACLR.
