Intra-articular injections of ozone versus hyaluronic acid for knee osteoarthritis: a level I meta-analysis.

Four randomized controlled trials involving 424 patients with knee osteoarthritis were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing intra-articular injections of ozone versus hyaluronic acid. The outcomes of interest included visual analogue scale (VAS) scores and Western Ontario McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) scores. The pooled results demonstrated no significant difference between the two interventions in VAS scores at follow-up. Both treatments provided similar levels of pain control at 4 to 6 months, suggesting either therapy could be viable depending on patient-specific considerations such as cost and availability.
