Effectiveness of Internet-Based Telehealth Programs in Patients With Hip or Knee Osteoarthritis: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Twenty-one studies, including 3186 patients with hip or knee osteoarthritis, were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing internet-based telehealth (IBTH) programs to conventional care. Pooled outcomes of interest included improvements in function, pain reduction, and self-efficacy. IBTH demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in function (SMD 0.30, p<0.001), pain relief (SMD -0.27, p<0.001), and self-efficacy (SMD 0.21, p<0.001) compared to conventional interventions. The study concluded that IBTH is an effective nonpharmacological option, particularly when exercise is included in the intervention.
