2024 COA Annual Meeting: Evaluating the Minimal Clinically Important Difference in Patient-Reported Outcome Measures Between Mechanically- and Kinematically-Aligned Total Knee Arthroplasty: An Updated Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

Twelve studies with 1,033 patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing mechanically-aligned TKA vs. kinematically-aligned TKA. Pooled outcomes of interest included radiographic alignment, range of motion, and patient-reported outcome measures. The pooled results indicated no statistically significant differences in range of motion; however, patient-reported outcome measures showed a statistically significant but not clinically significant difference favouring kinematically-aligned TKA. The main finding suggests that there is no clinically significant difference between mechanical and kinematic TKA regarding range of motion and patient-reported outcome measures.
