Comparison of the effects PRICE and POLICE treatment protocols on ankle function in patients with ankle sprain.
Ulus Travma Acil Cerrahi Derg . 2023 Aug;29(8):920-928.This randomized controlled trial included 109 patients with ankle sprains, comparing the Protection, Optimal Loading, Ice, Compression, and Elevation (PRICE) versus Protection, Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation (POLICE) treatment protocols. Outcomes of interest included improvement in ankle function, pain reduction, and treatment of edema, measured using the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Scores (AOFAS) and the Foot and Ankle Disability Index (FADI). The POLICE protocol showed significantly better outcomes in improving ankle function and reducing disability scores compared to PRICE. These findings suggest that POLICE may be preferable for rapid recovery in ankle sprain patients.
